Designers

The education and work experience of an expert certified by the FISE certification service fulfil the detailed requirements for qualifications in the designing industry. Experts certified via FISE are committed to continuous improvement of their expertise, as well as working in accordance with FISE’s Code of Ethics.

FISE’s certification service offers 34 certifications for designers. Some of these are based on the Land Use and Building Act and some are needs-oriented certifications of the industry. You can access the detailed information relating to these certifications using the links at the bottom of this page.

According to the Land Use and Building Act, the following persons shall be designated to building projects:

  • Principal designer responsible for the quality and entity of designing works
  • Building designer responsible for the building design
  • Special designers who will draw up the required special design documents.

Depending on the project type, the required special designers may include, e.g. designers of load-bearing structures (concrete, timber or steel structures), geotechnical designers, building physics or acoustics designers, designers of water supply and sewage (KVV), designers of ventilation (IV), as well as designers of repair works to moisture damaged structures.

The Land Use and Building Act, and the complementing Decree, describe the competence classification of designing tasks and the qualification requirements for designers separately for new buildings (U) and repair and alteration works (K). Thus the FISE certification service provides separate certifications for new buildings (U) and repair and alteration works (K).

The certification of a zoning planner is based on requirements set for the preparation of land use plans in the Land Use and Building Act, and the complementing Building Decree.

The needs-oriented certifications of the industry are established for designing and inspection tasks in special branches, requiring specific expertise. Some of these certifications are constructed in compliance with the principles of the Land Use and Building Act.  In FISE’s certification service such certifications refer to e.g. Designer of concrete structures, material technical works or Geotechnical designer (civil engineering) – rock structures – and fire safety designer.

The certifications of external inspectors in design of various structures are constructed on the basis of competence classification of special designers. Similarly, these are also compliant with the principles of the Land Use and Building Act. The FISE certification service provides certifications of external inspectors in design of concrete, timber, steel, geotechnical and rock structures, as well as for external inspector in design of building physics.

Other needs-oriented certifications of the industry are Vibration expert, Designer of water supply and sewage in dispersed settlement, as well as Designer of cooling. The principles of these certifications have been mutually agreed upon with essential expert bodies of each special branch.
